Poultry & Game

Raised right, full of flavour

Good animal husbandry is at the core of what we do, not simply as we are all animal lovers, but good care and low stress environments make better meat.

We take pride in offering poultry and game that’s full of natural flavour and raised with care. From slow-grown chickens and rich, meaty venison to seasonal game like pheasant, rabbit, and partridge, every bird is selected for quality and prepared with skill.

Our Poultry

Poultry is probably the most vulnerable product in our supply chains to unacceptable husbandry techniques.

We constantly review our suppliers to reassure customers that we stock the best poultry in the market.

Our Chicken is sourced from Cumbria in red tractor compliant farms.

We have recently added Herb Fed Chicken to our range. These chickens are raised outdoors on their farm in Yorkshire. They only come inside in the evening to protect them from Mr. Fox.

They are fed 10 different fresh herbs to augment their free-range diet. Grown slowly and naturally – we would argue it is the best chicken we have tasted.

Our Game

We source all of our feathered game from Cartmel in the Lake District. Birds are acquired from local shoots and salmon is smoked on the premises.

It is certainly the best game we have tasted! L’Enclume the 3-star Michelin restaurant in the same village agree.

Our Venison

Venison is lean, richly flavoured, and incredibly versatile — ideal for slow stews, pan-seared fillets, or roasting whole. We source it carefully and prepare it with the same attention and respect as all our meat.

Our Venison comes from Pitscandly Farm in Angus Scotland. Farmed venison has significant advantages over wild – you can find out more about our venison below.

Meet the Happy Herd of Pitscandly: Where Red Deer Roam and Venison Shines

Tucked away in the rolling Angus glens of Scotland, there’s a little slice of paradise called Pitscandly Farm. It’s here that a herd of majestic red deer roam freely, soaking up the fresh Scottish air—and no, this isn’t the start of a fairytale (though it might as well be).
Jeremy and Anona Gow, the husband-and-wife dream team behind the farm, are third-generation farmers with a passion for doing things the right way. That means top-notch animal care, a deep commitment to sustainability, and a whole lot of love poured into every aspect of their work.

Now, let’s talk venison. Not only is Pitscandly venison delicious (think rich, yet delicately flavoured), it’s also a dream for the health-conscious. Low in fat? Check. High in protein? Double check. Low in cholesterol? You bet.

In today’s world, where we all care a little more about where our food comes from, Pitscandly gives you peace of mind—and a plate full of flavour. You’re not just enjoying a premium cut of meat; you’re supporting a small, sustainable family farm where the animals are genuinely happy.

So go ahead—fire up the grill, pour a wee dram, and taste the goodness of the Scottish hills.

Our Venison comes from Pitscandly Farm in Angus Scotland. Farmed venison has significant advantages over wild.

The provenance is 100% understood and the age of the beast is known. Jeremy is the 3rd generation farmer raising red deer Pitscandly and has skill and passion second to none.

Deer are shot on the hill to order from BQ, ensuring minimal stress for the animal and maximum freshness of the product. Jeremys’ venison is a must try!

Farmed venison offers all the rich flavour people love about deer meat, but with greater consistency and tenderness.

Animals are raised in a controlled, low-stress environment with a natural diet, which results in meat that’s mild, clean, and reliably high in quality.

Unlike wild venison, which can vary depending on age, diet, and the season, farmed deer are carefully managed for welfare and finish.
